Fujitsu IS12T: Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Smartphones

Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications in collaboration with KDDI Corporation announced the presence of "Fujitsu IS12T", smartphones with Windows Phone 7.5 a.k.a Mango operating system. This smartphone is scheduled to be released in Japan in September.

MSI Windpad Enjoy 10: Android Gingerbread Low Prices Tablets

T-Mobile makes HTC Wildfire S official available for $80 [Aug. 3]

True to earlier reports, the HTC Wildfire S finally has a home at T-Mobile. The carrier-phone relationship was formalized today as the magenta-colored mobile provider announced its availability on August 3rd. The device -- code-named Marvel -- will be $80 with two-year commitment and after $50 mail-in rebate.

It has all the amenities we expected, including Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), a 3.2-inch HVGA display, 512MB RAM, a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz CPU, and a 5 megapixel shooter. You'll be able to get the phone in white or black; the only other differences in the new version appear to be the Swype keyboard and the inclusion of AWS bands. Mac OS X Lion to hit the App Store tomorrow

Well it looks like the cat's finally out of the bag virtual box. Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer just confirmed during today's earnings call that Mac OS 10.7 is due to hit the Mac App Store tomorrow, making Lion available as a 4GB download for $30. The new operating system packs 250 new features, including an iOS-like app launcher, multi-touch gestures, AirDrop for direct file sharing, and system-wide Resume.

More enhancements that will feel particularly familiar to iOS users include a new version of Mail with conversation view, and reverse touchpad scrolling. Asus Eee PC X101H netbook hits the FCC

The Asus Eee PC X101 is a $200 netbook designed to use an 8GB solid state disk and run MeeGo Linux. Asus plans to launch the mini-laptop in the US later this summer. But the company is also working on a slightly different version called the Eee PC X101H which will have a higher capacity hard drive and Windows operating system. Last I’d heard Asus had no plans to offer that model in the US, but it showed up at the FCC web site today.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that Asus will be bringing this model to the States. Sometimes companies apply for FCC certification for devices just in case they might later want to launch those gadgets in the US.

Asus has posted a user manual and a number of photos to the FCC. There’s no information about the operating system or software, but the laptop clearly has a Windows key for launching the Start Menu.

The laptop has 2 USB ports, an SD card slot, an Ethernet jack, and a VGA port.

The photos also show a removable battery and RAM access panel, so users should be able to make some upgrades without opening up the case and voiding the warranty. Asus tells me that the Eee PC X101 will only be sold with a 3 cell battery in the US, but the X101 and X101H can also work with a 6 cell battery.

You might want to take the photos with a grain of salt though, since several show a model number of 900A. I suspect Asus just slapped an old sticker on this prototype, but the Asus Eee PC 900A is a netbook with an 8.9 inch display that was released in 2008. [Source: liliputing.com]

Samsung to launch a 5.3 inch tablet/phone

There’s a thin line between a smartphone and a tablet these days. And I’m not entirely sure which side the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Q falls on. According to a report out of Korea, Samsung is preparing to launch a device with a 5.3 inch screen that will fall somewhere in between the company’s Galaxy S line of smartphones and Galaxy Tab line of 7 to 10 inch tablets.

According to the report Samsung will introduce at the IFA trade show in Berlin in September.

A device with a 5.3 inch display might be a little large to fit in your pocket, but it’s definitely more portable than the company’s larger tablets — while still offering a bigger screen for watching videos, playing games, or surfing the web.

Unfortunately there’s no information available at the moment about the screen resolution, processor, or operating system — although Android seems like a safe bet.

Samsung has also introduced a line of Galaxy Player devices with 4 and 5 inch screens recently. These devices also blur the lines between phones and tablets by offering many of the features of a phone (including a relatively small size) without the phone capabilities.

But let’s face it — at this point, consumer tablets and smartphones tend to have similar processors, storage capacities, touchscreen technologies, and even operating systems. The only real difference is that phones make phone calls. It’ll be interesting to see whether Samsung positions the Galaxy Q as a phone or a tablet… but my guess is if it makes calls people will call it a phone. If not, then it’s a tablet. Fujitsu Shows off Next Generation Color digital e-Paper Module

Fujistu has used the International Digital Publishing Expo to demonstrate its next-generation color digital paper module. The technology, which is made possible through the use of cholesteric liquid crystals, has made significant strides in its latest incarnation. Its writing speed has improved to 0.7 secs, while it can still display 4096 colors.

The advantage of using cholesteric liquid crystals is that they do not require polarizing or reflecting plates, color filters or backlights. This helps the 8-inch module on display weigh in at just 226g while delivering excellent battery life. It has a pixel density of 157 dpi and can cover 20 percent of the NTSC color space.

The display uses a build of the Linux OS to run the device and is capable of supporting JPEG, PDF and ePub formats. [Source: electronista.com]

Archos sends A70S2 tablet through FCC

You'd think after unveiling a duo of Android 3.1 slates along with a bare-bones model Archos would have washed its hands of tablets for at least a couple months, right? Of course not -- the French company that just won't quit has sent yet another tab through the FCC, this one dubbed the A70S2. And that's about all the outfit let slip on the subject -- at least until August 19th when the confidentiality protection covering the tablet's juiciest details expires.

The company wouldn't throw us a screen size, resolution, or even a confirmation that yes, this thing might well run Android like the bulk of Archos' other tablets. So if this game of "what the heck is this?" doesn't bear fruit, let's take the opportunity to have a (one-sided) heart-to-heart with our favorite French tablet maker. Archos, isn't it about time you added an easy-to-hold, 7-incher with Android 3.1, 250GB of storage, and HDMI-out to the mix? We think it'd fit in perfectly. [Source: engadget.com]

Best Buy is about to start offering factory-refurbished Acer Iconia Tab A500s (16GB model) for $349.99 – that’s $100 off the retail price that is $449.99. While you can’t buy one immediately as it’s “coming soon”, it’s one page to keep an eye on if you’re after a good deal.

Ocosmos launches OSC9 Oak Trail Windows tablet in Korea

Korean company Ocosmos has a line of Windows tablets and handheld computers aimed at the portable gaming market. Ocosmos first started showing off its tablets at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, but since they’re built around Intel’s Oak Trail platform they weren’t ready for release until Intel officially launched that platform — which the chip maker did this summer.

Now it looks like the first Ocosmos tablet is available in Korea and it could ship internationally soon.

When we first saw the Ocosmos OCS9 at CES it had a 9 inch display — which helped explain the name. But several Korean sites are reporting that the device now has a 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen display. You know, just like virtually every other tablet hitting the streets this year.

The OCS9 has a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z670 Oak Trail processor, 2GB of memory, and a 32GB or 64GB solid state disk. There’s a 1.3MP front-facing camera, a 5MP rear camera, and a 6-axis gyroscopic sensor. The tablet has WiFi baked in, but if you want 3G or 4G wireless data you’ll need an external dongle. The computer runs Windows 7.

Earlier this year Ocosmos was showing off a wireless keyboard and gamepad that could be used with the tablet. There’s no word on whether that accessory still exists.

While the OCS9 looks like a decent little tablet, I’m much more interested in the OCS1 — a 5 inch Windows tablet aimed at gamers with game controllers either built into the sides or available as part of a separate accessory that can be attached to the handheld. Nokia Perks leaked

If you're looking to score deals and discounts online you've got plenty of choices -- Groupon, LivingSocial, GiltCity, Google Offers -- and yet, Nokia seems to think the world needs one more such service. The sleuths over at ZOMGitsCj spotted a video on Vimeo from the struggling handset maker (since removed) introducing Nokia Perks.

The premise is pretty simple -- pop over to perks.nokia.com (currently offline), browse for deals and coupons, and click save on any you care to cash in. The discounts you pick are automatically sent to your phone and, just like Groupon, all you need to do is show the barcode to the register jockey. Dell Peju Tablet Leaked, docking station & all [video]

Dell is working on a 10 inch Windows tablet, but the company has yet to release detailed specs for the device. Now a web site called Dell Peju Insider has published what it says are leaked documents related to the upcoming device.

I’d take the specs with a grain of salt — especially the screen resolution, but there’s a pixel density arms race going on these days, so it’s certainly possible that Dell could launch a 10 inch tablet with a 1080p display.

Price Drops: Acer Iconia Tab A500 &Toshiba Thrive

We’re flooded with tablets on the market now, especially in the US where you’ve got your pick of pretty much any tablet that’s been released – and something’s got to give soon. Price drops. Motorola is the first, dropping the price of its 32GB Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi down to $499 – $100 off in both the US and Taiwanese markets, putting it inline with the cheapest Android tablets (for the storage you get) out there. Acer and Toshiba could be next in line with price drops on their tablets.

We’ve heard the Acer price drop rumor before and it’s turned up again. Acer are expected to drop prices in August – if they want to meet their shipping goals for this year. It’s already happened in Japan; the Acer Iconia Tab A500 sells $100 cheaper (relative to the local market) but I think there’s leeway for that given the weak dollar.

Toshiba is also expected to drop prices on the Thrive tablet in Taiwan, in August, despite only just launching. Their highest end 32GB model goes for $579.

Can prices go below $399 for Tegra 2 10-inch 16GB Android tablets at this stage? Digitimes mentioned last month (can’t find the article anymore) that ASUS makes most their profits not from the Eee Pad Transformer tablet itself but from the $150 keyboard dock it sells. [Source: netbooknews.com]

10 Reasons Google Will Buy RIM

Research in Motion (RIM) is one of the world's largest enterprise smartphone, a lover of Crackberry Blackberry, making an interesting review: 10 reasons why Google will be buying RIM. Review of Kevin Michaluk from Crackberry interesting:

1. QNX.
QNX is the basis of the Tablet BlackBerry OS and the future of the BlackBerry "superphones". Literally a drop-in replacement for the Linux Kernel's Android. Thanks to POSIX compliance, it only takes a miraculous week for Android makes the conversion and they could soon enjoy the benefits of QNX in Android platforms, namely: increased stability (vs. microkernel. Monolithic kernel), better security, ease of launching a new hardware (QNX already running on 32 cores) and many more. Android has a vulnerability. Android by QNX kernel is very interesting.

2. Canada Place That Good.
Google already has offices in Kitchener (near Waterloo), Ontario, where RIM's headquarters are located. It could be that Google has been thinking ahead.

3. Java.
Java heart of Android, and Research In Motion has a lot of smart people who know Java.

4. Mobile patents.
One of the biggest weaknesses of Google / Android 's is the lack of patents in terms of mobile. Google began inundated with lawsuits and unfortunately these demands are not only directed at Google, but also companies that use the Android OS. Google mobile patent NEED a strong defense. By buying RIM did not just give Google a patent from RIM, but also they will get the patent acquisition Norcel that where Google is now not in the winning bid.

5. T.A.T.
Google has been working with The Astonishing Tribe. TAT is what makes the first interface for Android on T-Mobile G1. Google knows TAT. Google likes TAT. RIM has a TAT. Google to buy RIM automatically have the TAT.

6. Enterprise.
Android becomes feasible for enterprise / corporate. Today when you mention the Android in the enterprise, most people just laugh. Security does not exist, nor is there a good way to manage it. RIM has announced that they are working at cross-platform support for BES in the BlackBerry World this year. In a world where Google has a RIM and there is a QNX kernel on Android (see point # 1), Android in the enterprise is no longer ridiculous, but awesome.

7. Carrier relationships.
I think people will not be arguing about the fact that RIM has done a great job over the years to expand its footprint across the globe. Google also does a great job with the existence of Android, and Google will benefit more from the relationship that RIM did with carrier and RIM have people who used to work with this law.

8. A complete proof of concept / Commitment to Android.
RIM has announced support for Android applications on the BlackBerry Playbook (and the upcoming BlackBerry Smartphones) and this course will benefit Google by having RIM.

9. Reduce fragmentation.
Google has made it clear that they want to reduce fragmentation in the ecosystem of Android, and BlackBerry running on Google Android applications will only complicate the issue. By buying RIM clear this would be overcome.

10. Assuming that Google wanted to, they can now have pengelaman end-to-end. Google is currently building the hardware. Instead, they give the operating system to companies like HTC, Samsung, LG, etc. that build the hardware. Google may not want to change this approach, but if they wanted, they could actually have a pile of hardware and software and build their own hardware through the acquisition of RIM.

11. Google CEO, Eric Schmidt is a BlackBerry addict. Seriously, even in 2009 when Android emerge, Eric Schmidt seen using a BlackBerry. I'm not saying everyone at Google like the BlackBerry, but I'm sure they have a BlackBerry.
