"Lovelock" Fedora 15 Released "Download Available"..

The Fedora Project  released 15 with codename "Lovelock" was made available for download yesterday. Fedora releases are always awaited with significant anticipation, and this one has been no exception. The biggest news about this release, is that they have changed to a Gnome 3 desktop. As far as I am aware, they are the first "major" distribution to use Gnome 3 as their default desktop. Because of that, and the obvious comparisons to Ubuntu's recent release of their Unity desktop, this will be the primary focus.

The distribution is available from the Fedora Downloads web page. You can copy the ISO image to a USB stick by using their LiveUSB Creator utility, or you can simply "dd" the image to the USB device. Boot the Live image, and you are ready to install. Installation is fast and fairly simple.

Apple iOS crosses over 5 million game downloads per day..

Apple’s iOS App Store sees more than 5 million games downloaded per day as iPhone and iPad users look to fill their devices with gaming goodies, new figures have revealed.

Having recently received an award from the Guinness Book of World Records for having the ‘largest downloadable video game store’ in history, Apple is now reported to be totting up more than 5 million gaming app downloads per day across the US and EU market.
Compiled by Distimo and Newzoo, the new figures have revealed that of the 5 million daily downloads, 88 per cent of these gaming apps are in the form of free-to-download content with just 12 per cent being paid for.
Further revelations from the compiled data showed that 90 per cent of the gaming downloads are made by iPhone touting iOS users, 9 per cent coming from iPad owners and a single per cent in the form of Mac App downloads.

Wordpress released a new IOS 2.8 update..

Content Management System (CMS) WordPress has released an IOS 2.8 update. Not that Apple doesn't already have enough consumer apps for its Things but Wordpress' IOS 2.8 update is one of the best, and it's open source to boot.

The WordPress IOS 2.8 update has a quick photo button, a statististical metrics breakdown feature and the app has been translated in to ten languages including Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Japanese.

WordPress calls its quick photo button "action-centric", by which it means fanbois will find it easier to use. Instead of selecting the blog first, punters choose a task in the app, which then puts out the blog entry afterwards.

The statistics feature gives users a breakdown of analytics in real time. It's not comprehensive, though the Wordpress IOS 2.8 update does offer weekly, daily and monthly charts. Fanbois can also swipe over the charts and get a breakdown of daily views by date and view top posts by referrers and search terms.

WordPress said the statistics feature runs natively for all WordPress blogs. However, if fanbois self--host their blogs, Wordpress recommends downloading Jetpack or a standalone statistics plug-in and said it will add more app functionality in the near future.

Apple to release Mac OS X Lion with Mac Apple Store..

Apple announced the release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion during this summer, and it will make the switch to a new kind of digital distribution for it os upgrades by releasing the software 1st through its new Mac Apple Store.

The Mac App Store, available to all users running the most recent version of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, will become the de facto method for obtaining the Lion upgrade, people familiar with the matter have revealed. Users will be able to upgrade instantly without the need for physical media by purchasing Lion through the Mac App Store.

While the Mac App Store will be the preferred method for installing Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, set for release this summer, it's logical to presume that Apple will also offer an optical disc for people who may not have broadband. At least person with knowledge of the situation claims that this will indeed be the case "for those with slower connections, or not want to download it."

Apple will likely reveal its distribution plans for Lion at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Calif., set to take place June 6 through 10. Apple has promised that this year's conference will showcase the "future" of the Mac operating system, and will be an event developers will not want to miss.

Hardware requirements for the Mac App Store are the same as those for Snow Leopard, including an Intel-based processor, 1GB of system RAM, and 5GB of available disk space. But those with Apple's earliest Intel-based machines will not be able to run Lion, as it has a minimum requirement of a Core 2 Duo processor.
