Carpet Alarm Clock

At the present here's a fun mission for you to do during the upcoming summer holidays - the Alarm Clock Carpet sees

a normal carpet being fitted with the guts of an alarm clock, where the latter's circuit switch has been replaced with

conductive fabric stitches triggered by stepping on the rug. absolutely great for sleepyheads who have just stepped

out of the bathroom and speculate about the time of the day.

Defence trials devious cameras..

Light and sounds key to high-quality photos...

The Defense Science Technology Organization “(DSTO)” is running facial credit trials which will underpin biometric initiatives across the Department of Defense, Immigration and Latest smart card driver's licenses.

The organization has toyed with so called ‘attractors’ counting signs or noise-emitting devices that draw the attention of passers-by so they inadvertently look directly into a camera.
Angles of image capture is one of the biggest shortcomings of facial recognition devices, which often must be obfuscated yet be capable of taking a straight photo.

DSTO senior biometric systems analyst Brett McLindin told a Biometrics Institue conference today the trials will focus on the connections between humans and biometric devices, somewhat than the technology itself.

McLindin said "We are looking for generic results on human interactions, not just lab results. This will be used by the whole gammut of government".

A roomy 2.4-inch screen, 16-million colour display automatically reorinatates when you slide down the email-friendly keyboard.

The slide-down arrangement makes for a much thinner, snugger form factor than Nokia's prevsious entry in the horizontal full keyboard range, the Communicator with its lunchbox form-factor hinged screen. A brief preview NBR was convinced that this is going to be one of the signature mobiles of 2009.

Nokia image exchange lite s40

Nokia handset owners who are astounding to the S40 operating system can now take benefit of Nokia Image Exchange Lite. This Java application is meant to be ‘an image uploading and sharing utility instead of a gallery application.’ Bear in mind that the Lite version will not perform a back-up of your images mechanically, but it is still a boon to those who used to jealousy at users of S60 handsets. The Nokia Image Exchange Lite app can be…

NOLKA Clone N86

Sometimes man, they can't even get the name of the clone right with the N86 NOLKA. Fine, this is nothing quite like the original device from Finland, but the $150 price tag makes it extremely tempting. It would fool most people from afar at first glance, but you will realize it isn't so once you boot up the operating system only to be greeted by a non-Symbian user interface. Other features on the NOLKA N86 include Bluetooth connectivity, an integrated FM tuner, a microSD memory card slot as well as audio and video support.

Samsung C3060R Phone

Dell Highlights Stylish Side

Now growing infamous as the bland-box company, Dell is approaching hard to break out of the old stereotype. This twilight in Manhattan, the company held something of a coming out party to rejoice its new design direction.

The most style shows up in the Dell Studio 15 and Studio 17 laptops, which now offer about 220 cover designs infused into the plastic lid of the PC – both solid colors and fanciful illustrations shaped by dozens of visual artists.

Under a new Dell Studio program, the company recruits artists four times each year to design notebook finishes that follow a theme. The first 200-odd designs are all meant to reflect the theme ‘Today.’

I must admit that the only way I perceived that theme is that I saw them all "today." Otherwise, the designs are all over the map. Not that it's a bad thing, though. "It was basically each artist bringing their interpretation of the word 'today,' which was pretty great," said Deanne Cheuk, who created a collection of four geometrically psychedelic designs called "Pyramid." She praised the wide latitude that the mandate gave her.

Dell going to Lower and Higher with Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook

The progress of netbooks reminds me of The White Stripes Song ‘Take, Take and Take,’ in which Jack White starts out saying that all he needs is to enjoy a comfortable seat in a bar. But by the end of the song, he'll be overwhelmed if he can't leave that same bar without a kiss from fellow patron Rita Hayworth.

Sure, we once thought that all we needed in netbooks was a cheap little lappie for email. But wouldn't be nice to have a bigger screen, a bigger keyboard, a better processor? And while you're at it, please throw in some HD video.

Dell had previously done all that with its $399 mini 10, which sports an Intel Atom Z series processor for HD video playback, an optional 720p HD screen, and even an HDMI port for hooking up a giant-screen TV.

I thought that was all that I needed. And then Dell showed off a version with an HDTV tuner, which spokesperson Anne Camden said should be available this summer for about a $50 upgrade. The tuner should pull in a good signal without an antenna in most locations, Dell claims. But if you're bounded by real (as at Dell's press event tonight), you can also plug in an included antenna to boost welcome. It worked pretty well, though I did see infrequent stuttering of the video feed.

Microsoft would have to Let Slip Zune Phone.

May be Microsoft is going to let out word of a new Zune this June, where a Twitter update from the Microsoft Office 2010 team stated, 'June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers', followed by another tweet mentioning 'New product launch, that's all I'm allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre. '. Why hold off buying a Pre or iPhone if the Zune is a portable media player, unless this new Zune will be a phone as well? At least this summer won't be that boring on the smartphone war front - we've already got our popcorn ready.

Portable Media Player Atree J2

Terminator Salvation just around the corner, we can't wait to see the return of glowing red eyes in a machine that pushes humanity to the brink of extinction - in the meantime, you'll just have to wonder whether the Atree J2 portable media player from Korea has a dormant plan of taking over mankind as there is a red LED located on its face. The Red Eye dome-shaped controller is used to navigate through the system's menu, and is but a poor cousin of the iPod's scroll wheel. Accessories In Best Buy System Palm Pre

Best Buy system has already prepped to include the upcoming range of Palm Pre accessories, and the most notable of them all is the Palm Pre Touchstone inductive charging station kit that was slapped with a price tag of $70. Would you fork out good money for something like that, or can still live with a wired way of charging which would definitely cost you much less? Well, internal prices have often not remained the same when released to public, so keep your fingers crossed that Best Buy was just fooling around with the $70 figure.

Watch TV and Games

If the LCD display's cracked or unusable, why not turn it into the Nintendo Game and Watch Donkey Kong Jr. mini TV? There is one major drawback to this mod though - it lacks the space to store the TV’s front-mounted speakers, so you will need to rely on a huge external speaker that is roughly thrice the size of the Game and Watch. We'd prefer to see a headset jack included this way, since you won't be sharing this with the rest of the office when it comes to your favorite soap opera anyways.

This Week in iPhone : The last time.

That's right, I'm moving on to other place in the internetosphere as of today (more later), and I will of course be leaving the weekly roundup of notable iPhone apps in the more than capable hands of one John "Mose" Herrman, so fear not, this isn't going anywhere.

Panasonic already set for itself their goal of launching a large 40" OLED TV in next year. To achieve that goal, this company will partner with Sumitomo Chemical to design an economically viable large OLED TV. and by all accounts, that's not a lot of time - but both companies must have a solid plan before doing this grand announcement . OLED is widely seen as the next big leap in display technology because it would bring image quality to the next level, while requiring less power. OLED can also be used to create exotic light fixtures. At the same time, Samsung and Sony also plan to introduce 40" OLED TVs next year.
